Top 10 Best Violent Movies

Violence in movies, music, games, and books is something that we all have to come to expect in 2011. At this point in time, a story is boring if it doesn’t feature someone at least getting their head sliced off. I mean, come on, you have to give the people what they want!
However, there are movies that add in violence for absolutely no reason other than the fact that the writer or director thought it would be funny. Yes people are going to get shot now and then, but do they need to be shot in the kneecap and then have the bullet removed out of there stomach? This list is a compilation of the Top Ten Best Violent Movies that you can still watch and not feel like you are committing a crime just by watching it. The Human Centipede is not on this list because that is a movie for only the insane to watch.
10. Hostel- It takes about an hour for anything to happen, but when it does it’s bad. Blood spurting everywhere, people screaming and crying, and some parts are just painful to watch. The same can be said for Hostel part 2 as it follows the same format. Absolutely nothing even remotely interesting until it hits a point in the movie where everything happens. Want an example? The last ten minutes of Hostel part 2 feature a scene where a saw goes through a woman’s head and a guy gets his manly parts cut off.

Hannibal, horror, fear
9. Hannibal Rising- All of the movies with Dr. Lecter are as creepy as they are disturbing. However, this one in particular takes the cake for violence. Consider the scenes when the young Mr. Lecter ties a man to a tree and to a horse. What could possibly go wrong? Or how about when he meets the fat fisherman dude? Yeah. If you haven’t seen this movie, I suggest you do. Or don’t. I’m surprised I didn’t rank this one higher.

8. The Friday the 13th Series- These are older movies but they still pack a punch. And swing a blade. Jason is an iconic presence in the world of horror and his legacy was created with these movies. He isn’t one to hunt someone down with the use of satelites or gangs, but he always finds his victims and makes sure they are dead. Some classic scenes include his machete going straight through the top of a guys head, and a woman is suspended above a fire and burned to death. They aren’t really well made movies, but Jason’s mask is something that people will never forget. Or that music… doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo…chh-chh-chh-chh-chh-chh.

7. The Passion of the Christ- This movie only made the list because it is disturbing to watch. It’s like an hour and half of Jesus being tortured and killed. It’s a (arguably) true story, but the Hollywood producers felt it would be best told from the perspective of Jigsaw. Just like in the Bible. This movie basically defined Mel Gibson’s career as a completely sane actor who has absolutely no issues and should forever be respected by everyone.

6. 300- Overrated. The fight scenes are cool and spears are a flyin’, but it’s really not that great of a movie. The most epic death in the movie is (yes, well done, you identified it before I said it) when the main dude with the beard kicks the other dude into the giant pit in the ground and yells that infamous line, “This is Sparta!”. There is constant violence throughout the movie, but it is pretty tame considering the situation. I blame the shields. What a pointless invention.

5. The Midnight Meat Train- The reason why this movie is ranked so low is because of how unlikely the story is. I’m sorry, but who rides the subway at 2am? Regardless, there is so much violence in this movie that it had to make the list. A guy rides the subway and kills anyone who’s on it with him. He has a large, metal mallet that he bashes his victims heads with. Eyes come flying out, blood pools in the cars, and the POV’s are incredible. The story line is a little weak, but it’s better then A LOT of movies out there.

4. Gladiator- This movie is about Gladiators. They fight in an arena where anything goes if it will please Caesar and get the crowd cheering. If you chop someones arm off it’s dull and overdone. However, if you can dismember him limb from limb and have his corpse either run over by a chariot or eaten by a lion, that usually gets the crowd kind of interested. The opening 20 minutes of the movie is intense but also pretty violent. The violence of this movie isn’t really unnecessary because they are gladiators fighting to the death, but still, it might make you squirm.

3. Hot Fuzz- It’s an action movie that is also a parody of action movies. It basically makes fun of action movies by being an action movie. It makes sense if you watch it. And you should watch it! It’s actually pretty good. Some of it is really funny, but some of it is over-the-top violent. For example, a massive stone piece falls onto a guys head so it causes his head to explode and blood to spurt everywhere. It’s kind of funny though. Is that bad to say?

 2. Kill Bill- I love this movie. It is violent for no reason at some points, but it is so bad-ass. Limbs fly everywhere, fountains of blood explode out of people, gun shots, sword play, martial arts, and playing possum all happen in this two-part series. It’s a lot of fun to watch if you are a fan of action. All of the movies on this list deserve to be seen, but Kill Bill might be the most exciting film on here.

1. Saw- All of them. Though the storyline alters in each one, the violence never changes. The methods that Jigsaw uses may be different, but the results are the same. Whether someone falls into a pit of needles, is electrocuted, takes a bullet to the eye, or is disemboweled by a swinging pendulum, the excitement never ends! That being said, there are moments in Saw where you really have to look away. Someone getting caught in an explosion is one thing, but someone getting caught in barbed wire is a whole different story. Still a good movie though!

Surprised to not see a Disney movie on this list? I am too. I don’t know how I left out those grotesque videos that haunted my childhood. You laugh, but try watching Bambi or Tarzan. The character development with Bambi’s mom will leave you in tears and the guy wearing the yellow jacket in Tarzan has the most disturbing death that still haunts my dreams. You are free to argue with me about this list.Comments posted to this site will make you slightly more famous than you were 10 minutes ago.
