Things I Fear: Awkward Family Functions

Thanks for everyone who voted in the inaugural poll. Given the overwhelming success of the poll, you can expect many more where that came from. At least until more than 5 people participate.

Things I Fear: Accidentally Deleting Something Important

“Has anyone seen my…” “That’s weird. I swear I put it here three days ago…” Sound familiar? Probably not, but it was a good way to up my word count. If those words did ring a bell, however, then you are someone who is all too familiar with one of the most horrifying experiences imaginable: Accidentally throwing something out.

Things I Fear: Your Boss Discovering You're Not Actually Working

If you are unemployed, think of it this way: You are asked to clean the dishes at home but your 8 hour gaming session ran a little bit longer than expected. Your parents, girlfriend, or the man who just broke into your house takes one look at the dishes and begins screaming at you.

Things I Fear: The Dark

First of all, this is a badass song by Iron Maiden. Aside from that, a legitimate fear that, sooner or later, everyone experiences. The dark on its own might not be too frightening because it’s just a black mass that sits there and doesn’t do a whole lot. There’s a lot more to it than just that though.

Top 10 Worst Animals to be Eaten By

I should start by saying that there really isn’t going to be a list of the top 10 best animals to get eaten by. Mostly because there really isn’t such thing as a good animal to get eaten by. However, in the sense of “If you had to choose…” I think this list does its job in achieving whatever it is that needs to be done. Any disagreements can be sent to me directly via email. You should all have my email by now. Try to use your imagination here and avoid going all National Geographic on me.  Okay, here’s the list that couldn’t be more irrelevant:

Things I Fear: Becoming Famous

Thankfully, I’ll never have to worry about this fear. However, some people live everyday of their life worrying that this could happen to them. Whether it happens because you won the lottery and invested your money in preventing cats from getting stuck in trees or because you accidentally stumbled onto an ancient civilization that seemed to be lost forever, becoming mind numbingly famous is always a legitimate concern.

Things I Fear: Driving Standard

For the longest time, I didn’t know cars could be driven any other way but automatically. I thought you pushed the gas to go faster and the brake to slow down. Changing gears was just something that happened along the way. Of course, I’m also the person who literally thought cruise control drove the car for you.

Things I Fear: Spiders

Okay, before I even get into it, this is one that I actually get. Something like the Fear of Jeans or Fear of Unpeeled Bananas...Not so much. Spiders, I understand. Arachnophobia affects a shocking amount of people. I bet if you put a 20 foot tarantula in a room of 30 children almost all of them would be afraid. Is there any test in the world that is more effective than that? I think not.

Top 10 Things You Don't Want to Have Happen When You Are Home Alone

This list will be short and sweet. And terrifying. These are things that only seem to happen when we are alone. Because any other time would be far too inconvenient for ghosts/axe murderers.

Things I Fear: 3:15

Some call it the witching hour, some the demons hour, to some it's known as dead time... Despite what you may call it, 3:15am is still widely regarded as the most terrifying time. It is at this moment that the gap that divides the living from the dead becomes so narrow that the line is virtually erased, causing spirits to cross over.

Things I Fear: Commitment

Commitment is probably the scariest concept imaginable. Just knowing that as soon as you say yes to something, you could be stuck with it for a long, long time. Now, this could be something reasonably small like marriage. Or this could be something extreme like actually sticking to a New Year’s resolution for more than 2 weeks.

Things I Fear: Santa

'Tis the season to suddenly realize you are afraid of that jolly, obese man who knows where you live because he watches you 24/7.

Things I Fear: Not Getting the Specific School Schedule You Want

This is a problem that can strike at any time. However, it is usually around the start of each school semester. Scientists have yet to figure out any reasoning for the correlation, though. God speed.

Things I Fear: Jell-O

1 in 5 people are diagnosed with this condition. Someone you know could be suffering in silence. Or non-silence because they are busy screaming over the gelatinous dessert. Regardless, it's a concern that can have a serious impact on the safety and well being of lives all around the world. Or not. Because it's Jell-O. Regardless, here's another article.

Things I Fear: The Urinal Situation

Any guy out there is more than likely familiar with this concept. I'm not sexist, so girls can be familiar with the concept, too. However, for the most part, only gentlemen of the male race are afflicted by it.

Things I Fear: Proofreading Your Own Work

Less of a fear, more of an..I'm incredibly lazy. But I can probably swing this post into something that vaguely matches the purpose of this blog. Give me a second.

Things I Fear: Online Gaming

If you're like me then you enjoy sitting alone in a dark basement, basking in the dim glow of a television while laying down, almost completely motionless on a couch covered in chip crumbs and broken dreams. If you're not like me than that was probably the most disturbing image possible.

Things I Fear: Your Credit Card Being Declined

Picture this: You're out for a night on the town with that special someone in your life that no one has ever actually seen you with so they assume doesn't actually exist.

Things I Fear: Meeting the Parents

Before the lawsuits start flying in, this post has almost nothing to do with the timeless movie classic that shares a similar name. If anything, I should be suing them for thinking of the title before me. This post is about meeting the parents or family members of the person that you are dating and the potentially terrifyingly awkward experience that includes.

Things I Fear: The Glass Ceiling

If you or someone you know is a woman or a visible minority, you might be familiar with a term that only goes by one name: the glass ceiling. This fear can also inhabit the lives of men, but that's less common due to a little something called a double-standard. It's a fear that pushes people to an extreme, and then ultimately comes to an abrupt halt because society says so.

Things I Fear: Online Shopping

If you are anything like me, which you hopefully are not because I wouldn't wish that upon anyone, then you really enjoy spending way too much money doing some online shopping. Whether you get your fix via Amazon, Kijiji, or the given obscure site of your choice, you probably have a number of concerns or fears during the shopping process.

Things I Fear: Spotting Someone You Recognize in Public

There’s really nothing worse. It’s the mother of all awkward encounters. You’re sitting on the train, minding your own business, when you just get this urge to look up. Of course, you are looking right into the eyes of an ex girlfriend.
